Pork and apple plait

A really tasty and amazingly filling, pork and apple plait is a serious winner.


  • 400g minced pork
  • 1 small onion or 2 spring onions, chopped
  • 1 large dessert apple, peeled and chopped
  • 4-5 sage leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 level tsp salt
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 250g shortcrust pastry


Step 1

Preheat the oven to 190/gas 5 and grease a baking sheet.

Step 2

Put the meat and everything but the pastry in a bowl and massage together with your hands.

Step 3

Roll out the pastry into a large rectangle.

Step 4

Place the meat down the centre and leave a couple of centimetres at the top and bottom and about 9cm at each side.

Step 5

Press the meat into a flat sausage shape.

Step 6

Moisten the edges its water and make six cuts in the pastry down each side about 5cm apart. These are the plait strips. Leave the bottom and the top to fold over.

Step 7

Pull the pastry strips over the meat one side crossing the other all the way down and folding in the top and bottom sections to secure.

Step 8

Place on a baking sheet and bake for 35-45 minutes.

Step 9

Eat hot or cold .
